Introduction

Welcome to DoxMAP. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy explains how we handle information when you use our mind-mapping application across iOS, Android, and the web.

Information We Collect

DoxMAP is designed with privacy as a core principle:

  • Mind Map Data: All maps you create are stored locally on your device. If you choose to use the optional cloud sync feature, map data is stored in Firebase Firestore under your authenticated account. We do not access or review your map content.
  • Account Information: If you sign in to enable cloud sync, we collect your email address and display name through Firebase Authentication or Google Sign-In. This is used solely to identify your account and sync your maps across devices.
  • Purchase Information: When you subscribe to DoxMAP Pro ($19.99/month or $199.99/year), Apple or Google processes the payment. We only receive confirmation that a purchase was made, not your payment details or personal information.
  • AI Interaction Data: When you use cloud AI providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google Gemini), your map data and prompts are sent to those third-party services. When using on-device AI (Gemini Nano on Android, Apple Intelligence on iOS), all processing occurs locally and no data is sent externally.
  • API Keys: If you provide API keys for cloud AI services, they are stored locally on your device in encrypted storage. We do not transmit or store your API keys on any server.
  • Device Information: We may collect basic device information for app functionality and crash reporting to improve the app experience.
  • Usage Data: We may collect anonymous, non-identifiable usage data (e.g., feature usage frequency) to improve the app. This data never includes your map content.

Mind Map Storage

Your mind maps are stored in the following ways depending on your settings:

  • Local Storage: Maps are saved on your device. We have no access to locally stored maps.
  • Firebase Cloud Sync (Optional): If you sign in with your account, your maps are stored in Firebase Firestore to allow real-time sync across your iOS, Android, and web devices. This feature requires an internet connection and authentication.
  • No Server Storage by Default: Without signing in, no map data leaves your device.

AI Assistant & Data Processing

DoxMAP includes an AI assistant to help build and organize mind maps. Data processing depends on the AI provider:

  • On-Device AI (Gemini Nano / Apple Intelligence): Processing occurs entirely on your device. No map data or prompts are transmitted to any external server. On-device AI is the default option when available.
  • Cloud AI Providers: When using OpenAI (GPT-4o), Anthropic (Claude), or Google Gemini (Cloud), a snapshot of your current map and your prompt are sent to the respective provider's API for processing. These providers have their own privacy policies governing how they handle this data:
  • AI Chat History: Your AI conversation history is stored locally on your device per map. It is not uploaded to any server.

Firebase Authentication & Cloud Sync

When you choose to use cloud sync:

  • Authentication is handled by Firebase Authentication (email/password or Google Sign-In)
  • Map data is transmitted securely to Google Firebase Firestore
  • Data is associated with your authenticated account, not shared publicly
  • All transmissions are encrypted in transit using TLS
  • Data at rest is encrypted by Google Firebase
  • Maps sync in real-time across iOS, Android, and web when signed into the same account
  • Google Firebase's data handling policies apply to synced data
  • Sync is optional and requires your explicit sign-in

How We Use Your Information

We use the limited information we collect to:

  • Provide and maintain the DoxMAP application across iOS, Android, and web
  • Enable optional real-time cloud sync across devices via authenticated accounts
  • Process your subscription purchases through Apple's or Google's payment systems
  • Facilitate AI-powered mind map assistance (on-device or cloud)
  • Improve app performance and fix bugs
  • Respond to your support requests

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored:

  • Locally: On your device in the app's secure container
  • Firebase (Optional Sync): If signed in, maps are stored in Firebase Firestore using Google's encryption and security infrastructure
  • AI API Keys: Stored locally in encrypted device storage (EncryptedSharedPreferences on Android, Keychain on iOS)
  • No Additional Server Storage: We do not store your map data or API keys on our own servers

Third-Party Services

DoxMAP uses the following services:

  • Google Firebase: For authentication, optional real-time sync, and crash reporting (governed by Google's Privacy Policy)
  • Apple App Store / Google Play: For app distribution and subscription management
  • StoreKit / Google Play Billing: For in-app subscriptions ($19.99/month or $199.99/year)
  • OpenAI API: Optional cloud AI provider for map assistance (governed by OpenAI's Privacy Policy)
  • Anthropic API: Optional cloud AI provider for map assistance (governed by Anthropic's Privacy Policy)
  • Google Gemini API: Optional cloud AI provider for map assistance (governed by Google's Privacy Policy)
  • Google AI Core (Gemini Nano): On-device AI processing on supported Android devices — no data transmitted externally
  • Apple Foundation Models: On-device AI processing on supported iOS devices — no data transmitted externally

Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information or map data to third parties. We do not share your mind maps or personal information with anyone. Your data remains private and accessible only to you. When you use cloud AI providers, map snapshots are sent to those providers solely for generating responses and are subject to those providers' data retention policies.

Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to:

  • Access your data: All your maps are stored on your device and are accessible to you at any time
  • Delete your data: You can delete individual maps or uninstall the app to remove all local data. You can delete your account to remove all cloud-synced data.
  • Control sync: Sign in or sign out at any time to enable or disable cloud sync
  • Choose your AI provider: Select on-device AI processing or choose which cloud AI provider to use
  • Cancel subscriptions: Cancel your subscription at any time through the App Store or Google Play

Data Retention

  • Local map data: Retained until you delete it or uninstall the app
  • Cloud-synced map data: Retained in Firebase while your account is active
  • AI chat history: Stored locally per map, retained until you clear it or delete the map
  • Purchase history: Maintained by Apple or Google in accordance with their policies

Children's Privacy

DoxMAP is a general-purpose productivity tool. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 years of age. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately.

International Users

DoxMAP can be used worldwide. Local map data stays on your device. When using cloud sync, data may be processed by Google Firebase in the United States in accordance with Google's data handling policies. When using cloud AI providers, data is processed according to each provider's data handling policies and may be processed internationally.

California Privacy Rights

If you are a California resident, you have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

  • Right to know what personal information is collected
  • Right to delete personal information
  • Right to opt-out of the sale of personal information (Note: We do not sell personal information)

European Privacy Rights

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

  • Right to access your personal data
  • Right to rectification of inaccurate data
  • Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten")
  • Right to restrict processing
  • Right to data portability
  • Right to object to processing

Since all your map data is stored locally on your device by default, you have full control over your data at all times.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or via an app store update notification. The "Effective Date" at the top indicates when it was last revised.
